Senior WARTS

Hey Seniors,
Have had a two day rest and would love for us all to catch up before you go away for xmas. I know that some of you may have left already, but was thinking about going for a mountain bike ride in Glenbervie on either Tuesday or Wednesday this week. If you are keen, could you send me a text as to the day and time that would work for you. If its a no go then still text me so that I have your numbers as there will be training over the holidays. Girls you should all be a boot camp on Tuesday morning 9.30am (boys you will just have to hold your own). Please keep 25th,26th,27th of Jan free, I am booking you in. Also ARC is the 16th and 17th of Feb, cost will be around $185-$200 so make sure you save up and keep super fit over the holidays(ARC will be for Juniors and Seniors).

Get2Go Final

Well what a week, in the last 5 days the Get2Go team has spent time kayaking, climbing, paddle boarding, sailing, rafting, orienteering, carrying, lifting, and running, as they compete in the Youthtown Get2Go Grand Final. It has been stated that this was the most physically demanding competition ever run on great barrier island, and in my 3 years of attending the event, it was clearly a step up from last year, with a 30km run and 6km Kayak, and that was just the last day. A huge thanks to the team at OPC that helped make it all happen and to all the supporters who have helped encourage our team.
The real congratulations goes to the 8 individuals who faced testing times and still continued to show what WARTS are all about; being supportive to your team mates, enjoying the outdoors and, going hard out to perform to the best of our ability. I am so thrilled for all that you achieved and the passion you showed over the week.

Here are some photos of the team in action. I hope you enjoy them.

Get2Go IS HERE

Well its time to head off to Great Barrier Island to compete in the Get2Go Grand Final. This would not be possible without all the support from parents and friends, and the larger junior squad. You guys have put in the hard yards and I am so proud of everything you have achieved in the lead up to this event. Please keep and eye on the OPC facebook page for updates, http://www.facebook.com/opcnz.

To the team going to Great Barrier, remember to get lots of sleep tonight, as you won't be getting alot for the next wee while. See you tomorrow morning!!!!

GO WARTS!

WARTS win Northland Get2Go Regionals

I have no nails left after a very intense day of racing. 25 teams competed in the event from around Northland. And only a few points separated the first place WARTS team and Huanui College. How fantastic that there is such good competition up here and that the sport is becoming more popular. All WARTS teams should feel extremely proud of their efforts, as we also achieved 3rd and 5th place. Here are some photos of the WARTS 1and WARTS 3 teams. I am very proud of the whole squad and a big thanks to all the parent support on the day. Look out Great Barrier here we come!!!!!!!

Change Of Details

Hey guys and gals,
There has been a change to the details given in the previous post.
The Duathlon is at Barge Park. You need to register at 8.30 for a 9 am start (it costs $10). It will involve a MTB and run. I imagine it will finish at around 10am, however there is a sausage sizzle and soup for sale (gold coin donation). I would really recommend this for seniors as there are some big events coming up next month.
At 9.30 I will be taking Orienteering at Mains Rd in Kauri (which is a gravel Rd) which is off Vinegar Hill Road. This will go till 11am. I would recommend this for juniors. You will need a thermal and rain coat and trink bottle. You will also need a permission slip signed by your parents to say that they are ok with you being there.

I hope this clears everything up.

Sunday 22 July 2012

Training on the 29th of July

Hey Team
On Sunday the 29th of July there is an opportunity to get a good mornings training in, in the build-up to some up an coming events. At 7.50am (start time after 8) at Barge Park there is an informal Duathlon being held by the Whangarei Triathlon Club, which costs $10 per person and will require a Mountain Bike.
Then at 9.30am I will be taking an Orienteering Training at Mains Rd in Kauri (which is a Gravel Road, 1km up), which is off Vinegar Hill Road till 11am. Neither are compulsory, however both would be a good experience. Its not often that we have events up here.

Monday 16 July 2012

Orienteering

Hi Guys and Gals
This weekend they are having a new orienteering event in town. Urban orienteering is always fun, plus we get to see new parts of town.
Details:
"SPRINTCITY"- Sunday 22nd July

Come try something different. We have not set this type of event up here before. But seeing that there will be "sprint" event as part of the Auckland Champs that will be held up here in October we thought it would be fun to give you an idea what its about.
A Sprint is tradionally a fast running course ( but as always we will have running /walking/family sections -So don't be put off by the word "sprint"!!!),navigation is generally easier, controls are closer together, but the descision making needs to be fast and accurate to make good time.
There are 1 and 3km courses.
Meet at the Town Basin Playground.
Registration from 9:45am

Saturday 14 July 2012

Tomorrows Multi sport race

Hey WARTS
There has been a change in plans for tomorrows event and it has changed so much that it will be too much to organise in such short notice. Please feel free to still go for MTB ride or a run, however there will be no race, and I will not be there. Sorry for the late notice.

Tuesday 10 July 2012
