Go-4-12 Information
Hey WARTS,
You will see below the game plan for next weekend. Please make sure that you have all of the gear, and there are some new items in the mix this time. The plan is to meet at WGHS gym at 6am on the Friday morning, and I would like you to make sure you are there ready to go, so that we can get away on time. If you have a large family tent that could hold two teams, please let me know so that we don't take so many items.
Make sure that you have discussed who will be bringing map boards for their bikes and what extra race food you would like your support crew to have. Try and be all sorted with your gear, as we are in a remote location where there is not alot of light, so the more sorted you are before going down to napier, the easier it will be when we get there.
ALL PARENTS MUST SIGN A WAVIER FORM ON FRIDAY MORNING. IF YOUR PARENT IS NOT DROPPING YOU OFF THEN YOU WILL NEED TO COLLECT ONE FROM ME BEFORE FRIDAY. YOU CANNOT RACE WITHOUT A SIGNED WAVIER FORM.

Mountain biking
Hey Team,
This weekend we will not be meeting for MTB at Glenbervie. I am heading down to Slater Rd, to go orienteering and MTB at a Northwest event. If you think that you might be keen, let me know. I have put the link below, click on the two events on the 9th of March.

ARC
Hi WARTS
Here we go the first big event for the year, and we have a huge number of teams and parents attending. Please find below the teams that will be racing, all teams are entered in the 12 hour non kayak event. You will also find which parents will be support crew for you, as well as being in charge of your transport. There is also a gear list attached, so please read this carefully and let me know if you need anything.
There are 29 of us going down to the event, which in my mind works out to be 6 cars (although peter is coming down later, which will give us space going home). Please think about whether your car is suitable, knowing that there will be off road travel, and that you will need to be able to take bikes (I have booked the school bike rack which takes 8). Accommodation is tenting, however I have hired a small studio directly next door to our campsite, which will act as a base and we can use the kitchen there and in the campsite.
Check out the weather that is coming next weekend, its going to potentially be very very wet and windy, make sure that you are prepared for this.
Please go onto the ARC page to get more information on the race format etc http://www.arcevents.co.nz/arc-adventure/raceinfo/
I would really recommend looking at maps of the area over the next week, especially up the Raglan Harbour, Pirongia Mountain, and the surrounding Hills. Wams is a good website for looking at walking tracks in the area or DOC.

Compulsory Event Gear:
Race Food for the day (Protein, muesli bars, sandwich, leppin or similar, baking slice)
It is important that you are only eating protein and carbs for the first half of your race (if not longer) foods high in sugar should really only be used in last few hours of a race. Please make sure that you have a variety of foods to eat such as sandwich, muesli bars, bacon egg pie etc. Remember that you have a support crew, so you do not have to carry everything in regards to food and drinks (you can plan on seeing them every four hours). Talk about it within your group and plan your food. We all know that keeping energy levels high will mean that you last longer and are able to perform.
2L Camel Pack (at the least)
Please make sure that your bike has been serviced!!!!!!

Mountain biking
Hey guys and gals, first post for the year.
Mountain biking this Sunday 2pm to 5pm, meet at Glenbervie forest, on the Adventure Park side.
Please make sure that you are trying to get to orienteering. You can find information about Orienteering on the sports ground website. Just type into google "Whangarei Orienteering" and you will get the link. Once on the website go into the "News" tab and it will show you the latest event.
Also on friday nights is cyclocross which happens at Whangarei boys high school at 5.45pm. $3 per race, 45minute races. This would be a good way to work on fitness on your bikes as well as getting speed up.
Below are a list of events that I am keen to attend this year. Please keep an eye on the blog so that you know what is coming up

Get2Go 2013 Report
Well what do you know, but we did it!!!! A team of Whangarei Girls and Boys High School Year 9 and 10 students went to the Get2Go Grand Final and came away with the win. What an amazing week we had, stunning weather, a vomiting bug, injuries, and more. But we made it through all of this to come out on top, just beating the team from the Naki. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Frances for all the help and support she gave over the week, and in the lead up to going. Both schools and parents have been so supportive of all the training's and commitment required to perform at the level we do. A big thanks to all our sponsors, as well as the Senior Adventure Racers, who gave up their time to support and mentor the juniors.
It is also important to acknowledge the huge amount of time and effort put into organising the event by OPC and Darren, it was a fantastic challenge. I hope you enjoy looking over the photos from the week, you are fantastic kids, who set high expectations and worked hard to achieve them.
Well done to Mackenzie, Callum, Flynn, Ella, Emma, Bill, Madi, and Matt. You deserve it!
