Calender of Events
Hi WARTS,
Well as we are entering the busy months for adventure racing, I thought it would be helpful for students and parents alike to see what is coming up over the next few months, I will keep updating the calender as events come to my attention. Please get in touch if there are any questions.

Please note: Entry Options
is to indicate the number of people allowed to race together, in that you could
be racing in a team of 2, 4, or 8, or that it is an event where you go by
yourself (mainly orienteering events). The school
or personal column is to indicate whether I will organise your entry,
transport, accommodation, etc, or if you and your family will need to arrange
it. Estimated costs is just that, I
will know closer to the time the actual costs involved, however it will give
you a good indication, and help with your decision as to whether you will attend.
None of these events are compulsory, however I will highlight the ones that are
really worthwhile attending, and everything else is just good experience and
fitness work. I have included pricing for adults, so please feel to join in, as
a lot of these events do not require support crews.

Orienteering this weekend
Hey guys,
Well now that we have had a few days to recover, it is time to get on with things and get into it. This Sunday at Huanui College, on Ngangaru Rd, is a winter series orienteering event. It costs $10 for adults and $7 for students, however if you are going to run with someone you can split the costs. Registration starts at 9.45 till 10.30. Make sure you bring a raincoat, pen, water, running shoes, compass (there are extras if you don't have one) and be prepared to get muddy, so a towel and plastic bag may not be a bad idea.
Look forward to seeing you there.

Genesis Energy Hillary Challange
What a week......I said before we left that we were taking our most experienced and well prepared team, and I stand by that. The WARTS team went down to the Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge with multiple goals, and achieve all of them except one. They were an amazing team, that really worked beyond their years, communicating frustrations, listing to each others ideas, and learning from mistakes. They were fit, fast and a force not to be messed with , however I believe that this year the bar was raised, and all teams (including the Australians) were well prepared for what can only be described as a smorgasboard of activities and challenges. True to reputation, Darren and the OPC team put on a first class event, that required every team member to contribute and play their part. Our team represented both schools and the Northland area with pride and a determination to do their best. We came away with a very respectable 5th place, not enough to get us automatically into the final for next year, but enough to show that we are competitive and growing stronger every year.
To Ryan, Eloise, Alice, James, Bridget, Shaan, Anna, and Rob, you gave it your all and we could ask nothing more of you. You were simply outstanding, and we are all so proud of your accomplishments.
Below are some of the moments from the week:

Its time for Hillary
Well its that time of year again to head down to central plateau and go head to head with the 11 other top Adventure Racing schools in New Zealand. Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge is by far and away the toughest secondary school event in the country, and WARTS have been attending this event since its beginnings, where Whangarei Boys High School won the very first. Lets hope this year, as we take down the most experienced team, that we can raise the bar one step higher and improve on our third placing from last year.
I would like to acknowledge everyone that has helped to support our team in the build up to this event, from parents to specialist coaches, the team could not be more prepared than they are, and its all the support that has made it possible.
To the seniors heading down to Hillary, our community is supporting you all the way. From younger WARTS, to teachers, local businesses, and parents.
Go WARTS!!!!!!
